Employment Law

Criminal Litigation
My interests are varied, and I spend a great deal of time and energy staying up-to-date on the latest law so that I can best represent my clients. The legal landscape is ever-changing, and with that in mind, I understand that I can never stay stagnant. Below is a sampling of my foundational coursework.
Always learning. Always up to date.
As a public defender with first-chair homicide trial experience, I understand the importance of attention to detail, maintaining effective client communication, and taking a client-centered approach to criminal defense. I have received extensive training in trial skills and the defense of sex crimes.
Additionally, I interned for the Saint Louis Circuit Attorney's Office, where I extensively studied search and seizure case law, wrote an interlocutory appeal, earned firsthand experience of criminal prosecution, and gained valuable insight into our criminal justice system.
Having grown up in a small family business, employment law has always interested me. As part of my successful completion of SLU Law's Employment Law Certificate, I completed coursework in Employment Discrimination, Labor Law, and Workers Compensation.
Moreover, I completed a directed research study under Prof. Susan FitzGibbon, the director of the Wefel Center for Employment Law. The research culminated in a bench memo advising on the constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act, or "Obamacare."
The Civil Litigation concentration program requires enrollment in Civil Practice, a course which I found to be invaluable and irreplaceable. This class walks students through each step of a case, from client intake to interviewing hostile witnesses to negotiations. I studied under Saint Louis attorney Cynthia Stevens, and argued a personal injury case where I represented the injured plaintiff, and won!
I also learned a considerable amount in the civil litigation clinic, where I worked with defendants on accounts-stated and foreclosure cases in addition to municipal and traffic violations.

In the practicum, Domestic Relations Practice, Judge Jack Garvey instructed a small group of us on the realities of being a divorce attorney. Whether representing mother, father, or child, family law takes a delicate touch and a keen eye. These are qualities I am fortunate enough to be blessed with.
Furthermore, because of my Trial Advocacy skills, Domestic Relations Practice allowed me to further my courtroom skills in a different setting than an ordinary trial. This prepared me to zealously represent my clients in a variety of settings.
